Magic Mirror - The Musical - Press Release
A wonderful artistic unison between China and Malaysia "Magic Mirror - The Musical" Introduction Very often, people only realize the mighty force of Mother Nature through natural disasters like the tsunami and earthquakes, which resulted in them having to experience the agony and sorrow of losing loved ones and homes. In these moments of despair, destruction and helplessness, a compassionate helping hand will always bring hope and strength to the needy. This spirit of selflessness and compassion is symbolized by Avolokitesvara Bodhisattva, the Bodhisattva of great kindness and selfless compassion who has no forms or shapes but takes on different manifestations to help those in pain, sorrow and despair. To propagate this spirit of compassion and selflessness, Yayasan Guan Yin is proud to present “Magic Mirror—The Musical”, a performing art spectacular combining artistes and talents both from Malaysia and China.
It is the fervent hope of Datin Tan Swee Lai, the Secretary General of Yayasan Guan Yin that the staging of this event, will help propagate the message of love, peace, harmony and human kindness. The Yayasan has specially chosen the acclaimed Chinese dancer, Professor Yu Xiao Xue to showcase his dancing talents in this musical. Together with Mr Chow Kam Leong, one of Malaysia’s top music producers, Professor Yu will create a unison of music, songs, dances and art to present on stage the "Magic Mirror - A Musical". The performance will depict how Avolokitesvara Bodhisattva helps sentient beings to emerge from darkness, guiding them to the right path and constantly spreading the message of loving kindness.
Most Malaysians had the opportunity to witness the dancing prowess of Professor Yu when he was featured in the "Thousand Arms Thousand Eyes Theatrical Performance", organized by Yayasan Guan Yin in 1999 and 2001. Once again, we are fortunate that he and his casts will be performing in the “Magic Mirror” with more zest, vigour and creativity for the enjoyment and pleasure of the Malaysian audience.
In addition, the famous Chinese stage designer/engineer, Mr. Ren Dong Sheng has been roped in to join Prof. Yu to design the stage for the “Magic Mirror-The Musical”. Master Ren will also help design and present an array of traditionally rich and innovating costumes for all the casts to impress and fascinate the audience.
Besides the talented casts, performers and impressive stage design, the “Magic Mirror-The Musical” will be accompanied by enchanting Buddhist music and lyrics composed by Mr. Chow Kam Leong, a renowned music composer and song writer in this country. With his talented creativity for Buddhist melodies, the trio will create and present an amazing mixture of music, sound, dances and drama depicting art in its purest form during the presentation of the “Magic Mirror-The Musical”. This theatrical performance will also feature a combination of talents and casts both from China and Malaysia. It will be a casting audition in Malaysia on 14 and 15 Jun 2008 and the public is greatly encouraged to participate in it. Yayasan Guan Yin is also currently seeking volunteers to participate in this project, as it would greatly help to promote the development of performing art in the country and contribute towards further cultural exchanges and co-operation among the artistes from both countries.
The “Magic Mirror-The Musical " will all together have 12 performances commencing from 27th of November 2008 to 14th of December 2008 at Genting International Showroom, Genting Highlands. For more information, please call us at 03-79579077.
